FIFA 16 is another installment in the world’s most popular soccer simulation series whose consecutive editions have been appearing annually for over 20 years, developed invariably by the Canadian branch of Electronic Arts. The series is one of the leading franchises in the giant’s publishing catalogue, which also includes other acclaimed sports game series, such as NHL, NBA Live, Madden NFL, or PGA Tour.

Traditionally, the game appeared on the most popular consoles of both current and last generation, and, of course, on its mother platform, i.e. personal computers, where the series originated along with the debut of FIFA International Soccer in 1994. It is noteworthy that this is the first FIFA in years that missed out Nintendo consoles, instead receiving a special mobile edition titled FIFA Mobile.

Depending on the platform, the game differs little in terms of content, most of the variations boiling down to audiovisuals. The PC version, just like the editions for 8th-gen consoles, again uses the next-gen Ignite engine, so it looks much better than versions prepared for older platforms. FIFA 16 was released simultaneously on all platforms on September 22, 2015 in USA, and September 25 in Europe.

As compared with previous editions, FIFA 16 offers relatively large bunch of innovations and improvements. One of the most significant ones is women’s national teams. The game features 12 such teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Mexico, Spain, and the USA. However, women’s teams are only available in friendly matches (solo and online) and single-player tournaments. Moreover, you cannot play women vs. men matches.

Another bunch of changes hit the popular FIFA Ultimate Team mode, now renamed to Ultimate Team Draft. Most of the changes were made to the team creation process, which is now much simpler than in the previous installments. Before you start playing, you get to select one of the available formations, team captain, and assign players to particular positions (select from 5 random players for each position). A thus formed team can be used in a tournament played against AI or other players. Winning a competition is awarded an appropriate reward, however, taking part requires paying a start fee (in the form of coins, FIFA points, or Draft Tokens).

Innovations also touched FIFA 16’s career mode. Developers from EA Sports introduced pre-season tournaments, which let you work on the perfect tactics and decide on the line-up. Besides, you can take part in training sessions to improve not only the abilities of your players, but your own too. In this next FIFA game the creators gave much attention to polishing gameplay and enhancing the artificial intelligence of both individual players and entire teams. The developers enhanced control of the players from the back of the field, so you can now use them more effectively to prepare attacks or quickly push them back to defense.

Players got 25 new movement options, the most significant ones being the ability to control the length of the slide and to stop mid-tackle. Computer AI reacts better to your actions, letting you construct more effective actions. The game features a new passing system, letting you make quick, short passes through narrow spaces. Changes were also made to dribbling so that now you can not only decide how but also when to touch the ball. Interestingly, the system was created together with famous player Lionel Messi.
As always, FIFA 16 offers a wide range of single and multiplayer modes, starting with friendly matches and training sessions, various tournaments (played in league mode or cup mode) through to expansive career. You can play either online or together with a friend on one PC. English version of FIFA 16 traditionally features commentary by Martin Tyler and Alan Smith.

In contrast to last generation consoles, PC version of FIFA 16 runs on next-gen Ignite engine. This time, however, instead of just graphics, the developers focused mostly on enhancing gameplay, thus, visually FIFA 16 differs little from the last year’s edition. There are a couple of novelties and modifications, though, some of which are better animations of players, new stadium models, and new crowd chants – which now amount to 900.

Lionel Messi comes back as the star of FIFA 16 box cover, accompanied by local football stars, depending on the region. For the first time in the history of the series American, Canadian, and Australian editions feature women players (Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair, and Steph Catley respectively).

FIFA 16: The Evolution of the World's Most Popular Football Video Game

Football, or soccer as it is known in some parts of the world, is undoubtedly the most popular sport on the planet. With millions of fans across the globe, it is no surprise that the digital world has also been greatly influenced by this beautiful game. And at the forefront of this digital revolution is the FIFA video game series.

FIFA 16, the latest installment in the long-running franchise, was released in September 2015 by EA Sports. With each new edition, the game has evolved and improved, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in a football simulation game. Let's take a closer look at the evolution of FIFA 16 and how it has become the ultimate football gaming experience.

Realism at Its Best

One of the major aspects that sets FIFA 16 apart from its predecessors is its unparalleled realism. The game developers have gone to great lengths to capture the nuances and details of real-life football. From player movements and celebrations to the pitch conditions and weather effects, every aspect of the game feels authentic and true to life.

The introduction of new features such as 'emotional intelligence' and 'no touch dribbling' has elevated the realism to a whole new level. These features allow players to react and move like their real-life counterparts, making the gameplay even more immersive.

Women's Football

For the first time in the history of the FIFA series, FIFA 16 features women's football. This addition was a major milestone for the game, as it brought much-needed representation and recognition to the women's game. Players can now choose from 12 women's national teams and compete in friendly matches, offline tournaments, and online seasons.

This move by EA Sports was widely praised and has helped to bridge the gap between men's and women's football in the virtual world.

Ultimate Team

FIFA 16's most popular game mode, Ultimate Team, has also seen some significant changes. Ultimate Team allows players to build their dream team by collecting player cards and competing against others online. In FIFA 16, the introduction of 'FUT Draft' has added a new layer of excitement to this game mode. Players can now draft a team from a selection of randomly generated players and compete in a series of matches to win rewards.

Ultimate Team has become a massive success, with players spending countless hours trying to create the perfect team and climb the online rankings. It has also become a major source of revenue for EA Sports, with millions of dollars being spent on in-game purchases.

Career Mode

FIFA 16's career mode has also been revamped, giving players a more realistic experience of managing a football club. The introduction of pre-season tournaments, player training, and improved transfer negotiations have added depth to this game mode. Players can now also control their team's financial aspect, making it a more comprehensive and challenging experience.

Community Involvement

The FIFA series has always had a strong community of players, and EA Sports has taken note of this. With FIFA 16, the developers have made a conscious effort to involve the community in the game's development. They have introduced a new feature called 'matchday live' where real-life events and performances can affect the in-game stats of players, making the game even more dynamic and responsive.

Moreover, the game's online community has been given a greater voice, with the inclusion of player feedback surveys and forums where players can suggest improvements and report issues.

Conclusion

FIFA 16 has come a long way since its first edition was released in 1993. With each new installment, the game has evolved and improved, making it the ultimate football gaming experience. From its unparalleled realism to its diverse game modes and community involvement, FIFA 16 has set the bar high for future football video games.

As the world of football continues to evolve, so does the FIFA series. And with FIFA 21 set to be released later this year, fans can only imagine what new features and improvements it will bring. But one thing is for sure, FIFA 16 has cemented its place as the best football video game in the world, and it will continue to entertain and captivate players for years to come.
